Eating Problems

Oromyofacial Issues and Eating Problems

From infancy through adulthood there are many different forms of eating difficulties. Sometimes it’s an inappropriate tongue-thrust, that pushes food and liquid out of the mouth. Other times it’s an over-stuffing problem, or a pocketing of food in the mouth. There are over-strong likes and dislikes, too, and particular texture aversions. There can arise dental occlusion issues, or choking or gagging, or the feeling of food stuck in the throat. There can even be outright pain or tension, or stomach reflux, or generally poor digestion. All of these can be oromyofacial in origin.

How We Can Help

BreatheWorks clinicians will observe and analyze your breathing coordination with your eating and drinking, and your muscle symmetry and balance, the strength and mobility of your swallow mechanism, and the motility of food through your oropharynx. They will treat any of your needs with an oromyofunctional, sensorimotor, whole-body approach, with a strong home exercise program, that will make your eating problems better.

Talk, eat, sleep, breathe better.
